Marking a significant milestone in showcasing Emirati culture in Canada, the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates hosted the grand-scale “Emirati Cultural Days” event, drawing thousands of attendees from diverse backgrounds on October 12, 13, and 14. Held at Lansdowne Park and the Byward Market area in the heart of Ottawa, this landmark celebration featured an unparalleled array of cultural activities, offering Canadians an immersive experience of the UAE’s rich heritage.

In her opening remarks, Aalya Helal Al Shehhi, Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. at the UAE Embassy, highlighted the event as a reflection of the UAE’s cultural diplomacy, organized in collaboration with the UAE Ministry of Culture to foster stronger ties between the two nations. She also noted the event’s special significance as it aligns with the celebration of 50 years of bilateral relations between the UAE and Canada.

“We are thrilled to bring this unique experience to Canada and share the beauty and traditions of our heritage,” said Ms. Al Shehhi. “Cultural exchange, especially through initiatives of this kind, is the foundation of mutual understanding and cooperation. We hope it inspires greater understanding and growing friendship.”

Emirati Cultural Days offered an unmatched scale and diversity of activities, unlike any previous UAE cultural event in Canada. Guests enjoyed captivating performances of traditional Emirati dances, vibrant displays of a wealth of UAE handicrafts, and live demonstrations of time-honored artisanship. The event also featured an authentic taste of UAE cuisine, inviting attendees to savor the flavors of traditional dishes. Families were delighted by the exhibit of traditional toys and games, offering a nostalgic glimpse into the simple joys of childhood in the UAE.

One of the most exciting and interactive experiences of “Emirati Cultural Days” was the performance by the Almazyood Traditional Band, who brought the vibrant traditions of “Al-Ayyala” and “Yawla” folk dances to life through their songs and displays. Hundreds of guests and visitors enthusiastically joined in, dancing and singing both indoors and outdoors. This lively demonstration of cultural heritage not only captivated the audience but also created a sense of shared celebration, allowing attendees to actively engage in the UAE’s rich musical and dance traditions.

Another highlight of the event was the cutting-edge virtual museum, an innovative experience that allowed visitors to explore the UAE’s rich history and heritage through immersive digital exhibits. With interactive displays and 3D visuals, attendees could virtually visit iconic landmarks, experience ancient traditions, and learn about significant moments in the country’s development.

A standout feature of the event was a dedicated station for Arabic calligraphy, where visitors could not only watch skilled calligrapher Mamoun Ahmed create intricate designs but also have their names beautifully written in Arabic script.

The event attracted a diverse crowd, including parliamentarians, government representatives, and diplomats, underscoring the importance of cultural exchange as a means of strengthening bilateral ties.
