Today I interview Randy Davison, a talented actor who’s made a name for himself in the entertainment industry.
Randy has starred in many productions, including the most recent Ronald’s little Factory, Amazing Grace, and his latest TV movie premiere Montross: Blood Rules.
Randy has won many awards throughout his acting career, making him a sought-after actor.
In this interview, we will dive deep into his latest projects and learn more about his upcoming projects.
Let’s jump right into it!
From Ronald’s Little Factory, Amazing Grace and your TV movie premiere Montross: Blood Rules, which set did you enjoy the most, and which character did you enjoy playing the most?
That is such a hard question. When I’m in the moment, whatever I’m working on is my favorite project. I know that seems like a cop out, but there is something memorable from every shoot.
In “Ronald’s Little Factory”, a horror comedy about a teen Mormon, boy dealing with temptation before leaving on a church mission, I got to work with my talented friend, director Brent Bokavoy. Since we know each other well and are familiar with how each other works, he gave me the freedom to play, explore, and improv a bit. I love that kind of collaboration.
In “Amazing Grace”, a film set in the late 1700’s about John Newton, a slavery abolitionist who penned the song “Amazing Grace”, I got to wear a costume and shoot on the same ship that were both used in the film “Master And Commander: The Far Side of The World”, so that was a pretty amazing experience.
And in “Montross: Blood Rules”, a film about a wealthy Southern family and the corruption that has secured their prominence in the community for generations, it was my first opportunity to spend time in the American South.
I shot in Biloxi Mississippi and I even got to spend a week in New Orleans during Jazz Week with my good friends, Todd and Janea, who really gave me the New Orleans experience! I ate some of the best food I’ve ever had, listen to some amazing live music, and I even went on an Alligator Tour on the bayou.
By the way I highly recommend the Crawfish Etouffee…delicious! I couldn’t get enough.
Can you describe briefly to us each character that you have played in each set?
In “Ronald’s Little Factory”, I played Brother Wood, a quirky, creepy choir director from Ronald’s church who tries to exercise Ronald’s demons through unconventional methods.
In “Amazing Grace”, I played the stern Captain of the British Royal Navy who John Newton served under before being brutally disciplined and sent to work on a slave trade ship.
And in Montross: Blood Rules, I played Frank Henderson, a corrupt Southern politician/mobster who tries to take the Montross family’s land through unscrupulous and wicked means.
How did you land your role in Ronald’s Little Factory?
This was actually my friend, director Brent Bokavoy’s first feature film. He informed me that he actually wrote the role of Brother Wood for me. He described him as a serial killer Ned Flanders (the character from the animated series, “The Simpsons”).
I’m not sure if I should be flattered that he thought of me for that role. Ha ha!
How did you feel when Ronald’s Little Factory premiered?
The film screened for a full house and the reception was amazing. I am very proud of how it turned out. I’ts a cross between a David Lynch movie with a little Cohen Brothers sprinkled in.
Which set did you feel you learned the most from and why?
I’m always learning on every set I work on, but I feel like I gained so much knowledge and experience working on “Montross: Blood Rules”.
I have played Southern characters before, but actually spending time with the people, soaking up the culture, eating the food, and exploring Biloxi and New Orleans gave me a greater understanding of the character of Frank Henderson.
It affected everything from the cadence of how I talked, to the way I moved, and how I interacted with the other actors.
Not to mention I got to work with the phenomenally talented Richard Brooks from Law and Order, so I really had to step up my game!
Do you have any upcoming projects that you are currently working on?
I’m actually currently working on a horror thriller called “Twisted”, playing a psychiatrist with sinister intentions. Keep an eye out for that on next year!
My conversation with Randy Davison was fascinating. I feel fortunate to have spoken with Randy about his current and upcoming, exciting projects. His passion and dedication makes him an outstanding actor. With that being said, I wish him all the best on his upcoming projects, and am excited to see what’s in store for the future!
